Use these resources to prepare questions for your project team and coordinate access control with electrical, network and surveillance infrastructure.
System operation
How a credential becomes an access decision.
A person presents a credential to a reader. The reader sends credential information to a controller, which checks authorization and controls the access response. Door contacts report status, and request-to-exit devices signal an exit request.
Access control can apply to office entrances, network rooms, warehouses, equipment cabinets and other areas where entry must be managed.
Components to include in the discussion

| Power supply | Supplies power to the connected equipment. | What voltage, load, protection and backup provisions do the devices require? |
Review each door as a system.
- Record the door arrangement, frame, existing hardware and equipment locations.
- Confirm reader and controller interfaces before selecting cable or making connections.
- Coordinate lock power, door monitoring and request-to-exit devices with the project design.
- Document network connections, power requirements and the expected operating sequence.
- Agree on testing, records and user training before project handover.
